Currently, this laboratory has been able to produce among others, the following molecules: FDG , choline and florbetaben.

Radiopharmacy: FDG

Fluorodeoxyglucose or FDG is a glucose molecule labeled radioactive fluorine atom , which makes it a radioisotope.

To be delivered to the patient , between 45 minutes and 1 hour before the test and after standing for this time , FDG is incorporated into the metabolism making it the most in those cells that require greater consumption of glucose. This higher concentration of radioisotope in particular regions of the patient, can be detected by the PET scanner , and this information can be used to diagnose tumors or metastases , for metabolic studies and for monitoring cancer treatments and other diseases.


F18-choline is a metilcholine radioisotope precursor to phosphatidylcholine, phospholipid necessary for the synthesis of the cell membrane. Thus, this high concentration of choline marked in relation to adjacent healthy tissue, is indicative of the existence probably of some kind of tumor.

After administration to the patient , the distribution of the molecule occurs immediately , so that is very suitable in diagnosis and study of excretory system , because the concentration thereof in this system is prior to urinary excretion .

Studies using this molecule are possible by PET -CT newest equipment and the possibility of using dynamic techniques .

Its use today is predominantly for the diagnosis of the excretory system , although they are pursuing the development of new techniques in PET -CT equipment for the evaluation of tumors and other diseases.

Radiopharmacy: F18-fluorbetaben

El F18-fluorbetaben is a radioisotope -labeled F18 , highly reliable diagnosis to rule out Alzheimer's disease.

Florbetaben can rule out this condition by the possibility of estimating the density of beta - amyloid plaques that cause cognitive impairment in adult patients . The binding of this radioisotope in a brain without amyloid is low and high with amyloid , and although it can detect the presence of amyloid can not diagnose Alzheimer's disease itself , but the absence of it against other dementias.


Fluordopa , F- Dopa or F18 -dopa is a radiopharmaceutical molecule used to detect marker integrity presynaptic dopaminergic neuronal endings nigrostriatal system in patients with clinically uncertain parkinsonian syndromes . Also it reflects the transport of dopamine in the presynaptic terminal , and metabolization and dopamine storage capacity .

In other words , the f -dopa is used primarily to differentiate essential tremor of parkinsonian syndromes related to other degenerative diseases affecting the nigrostriatal system (Parkinson's disease , multiple system atrophy and progressive supranuclear palsy).
